September 17, 2005 - Saturday
I took Jeremy with me to the store this afternoon while Harry and his mother went to a classmate's birthday party at the bowling alley. We'd gone back and forth on who should take which boy and ultimately decided it made sense for my to take Jeremy to the dump and mommy to go to the party. Jeremy was a little mad that he couldn't go to the party too, but seemed to accept the explanation that it was for a boy from Harry's class who Jeremy didn't know and that the party was for Harry's kindergarten classmates. Besides, Jeremy was tired. He and Harry had another sleepover in Jeremy's room last night and probably stayed awake late and got up early. That plus a swimming lesson this morning left Jeremy a little drained. And amazingly - amazingly for a child, it seems to me, but rather normal for Jeremy - he said so.
I noticed Jeremy was about to doze off as we pulled into the store parking lot and as
we were getting out of the car I asked, "Jeremy, you seem a little tired. Are you a little tired?"
"Yeah, a little bit. I'm a little bit tired."
"Well, I'm a little bit tired, too. Maybe after we get our things at the store we can go home and take a nap. How does that sound?"
"Good." Is that an amazing answer for a kid or what?! Well, not for Jeremy. He puts himself to bed late in the afternoons on the weekends when he's tired. He did it last weekend.
So, when we got home I turned on the TV, funniest animals or something on the Animal Planet channel, and we both lay down on the sofa. I was tired and fell asleep within 5-10 minutes and I kind of assume Jeremy did the same, too. My nap was about 20 minutes and I layed still for a few before untangling my feet from his and getting the camera to take this picture. Jeremy was still asleep about a half an hour later when Harry and his mother got home. I told them to be quiet because Jeremy was resting. His mother, in semi-mock
indignation, said, "I knew [that would happen]. I wanted to take a nap with Jeremy!"
