November 21, 2006 - Tuesday
We met for the first time today with Harry 1st grade teacher, Mrs. Northrop. It was our first parent-teacher conference of the year and for the most part she allayed our concerns about Harry's report card. She confirmed that she was purposefully a harder grader than the teachers in kindergarten would have been last yera and that Harry's was really a pretty good report. She also agreed that Harry was not intentionally disrespectful to others and that the "S-" there had been because his mind often starts to wander. He'll start to sing or hum while others at his table are working, even if he's been reminded. And I guess that's the obvious concern about Harry and his trouble staying focused. Unfortunately, I think by the time we had our conference Mrs. Northrop seemed to have already settled into a kind of monologue routine about what goes on the classroom and we really weren't able to have all that much of a dialogue about the specifics of Harry and that was less satifying.
