Today, Harry had
his first try serious at solid food. Well, truth be told, the Gerber Rice
food isn't particularly solid at all and is more like a mush, but it is, relatively
speaking, more solid than milk.
His mother had the honor of offering Harry his first taste of Rice, trying
several times with a spoon to show him the exciting world of varying cuisine.
But, contrary to the boast on his bib, Harry did not take to it with genius
and ultimately ingested very little. Most of the time he simply had a perplexed
look on his face.
When babies are born they apparently have very strong anti-choking reflexes.
Somewhat surprisingly, given the amount of time they spend putting things
in their mouths, they instinctively use their tongue and throat to dispel
objects that might otherwise cause difficulty. The move to solid foods, it
seems to me, is a move away from those reflexes and, judging from the dampness
of his chin and bib, Harry still has plenty of them left.
