April 30, 2000 - Sunday
I didn't spend
too much time with Harry today, though it was not because of our long
session yesterday of father/son bonding. I was a little behind on some
business work and actually
spent several hours in my office. However, while I was home, Harry had something
of a milestone: he rolled over. Of course, already last
Thursday he showed he could roll over from his back to his tummy and back
again, but that cycle gave him the advantage of his arm staying beneath his
chest and out of the way.
This morning, I had put him tummy down on his blanket on the floor without
his arms in such an advantageous position and was lying on the floor myself
next to him. But, as I was reaching for a toy and before I knew what he was
doing he was on his way over. I looked up and asked his mother if she had
seen it, but her vantage point on the couch was obstructed by the coffee table.
However, she did confirm that he'd never rolled over from a straight position
like that before.
Of course, on the one hand, he's been already been turning over onto his side
and contorting his body in various ways, so this is really a minor step. However,
it is one of those checkmarks on the Harry achievement scale that proves his
development is on schedule.
