Somewhat surprisingly,
we have yet to find the time to offer Harry his first taste of
solid food (which, incidentally, is not Rice Krispies as I
had originally thought, but rather a special Gerber Rice baby food specifically
engineered for infants). However, while his mother and I were eating lunch,
she whimsically stuck a raw baby carrot in Harry's mouth, though, of course,
did not let go of it herself. Carrots, or some other orange vegetable, aren't
really on Harry's agenda until after he has mastered Rice and then some mashed
fruit, but baby carrots are about the size of fingers and, without teeth,
Harry wasn't going to do much with it other than gum it.
Harry didn't even do that more than once or twice. Instead, he sat there with
quite a confused look on his face that was either tasting and being shocked
by something completely foreign, contemplating a revelation about his future
eating, or just staring blankly with yet another arbitrary item in his mouth.
I have my theory...
