When I went in to get
Harry for the first time this morning, it was because we had heard some rustling
and other minor noises from his room. But, there he was, standing
there in his crib, smiling and ready to start his day.
Harry made a quick follow-up visit to the doctor today to check his weight
and growth and he's now 18lbs and 28 inches tall. That puts him in back in
the 50th percentile, and is a dramatic change from his last visit. Remarkably,
he's gained 2 whole pounds in 6 weeks. The doctor says these anomalies can
happen and may be the result of some minor ailment he was suffering at his
apointment 6 weeks ago. Regardless, it's of no concern now since his growth
is back on track.
When we put Harry to bed tonight he was not tired. We don't know why, but
I hung out with him for a while lying on the floor as he again stood in his
crib. I must have spent more than 10 minutes throwning a ball up and catching
it with Harry laughing and thinking it was the greatest thing with a ball.
Unfortunately, that didn't make him tired either. We tried to leave him alone
to fall asleep on his own, but that didn't work so well. We've never really
had to do it before and succomed to Harry's insistance that he wasn't happy
about being abandoned. Eventually, his mother fed him more milk and got him
to sleep. I'm not too concerned about Harry's ability to fall asleep on his
own, he's done fine in the past, but I know there will be times in the future
when we'll need to be more disciplined ourselves.
