August 9, 2000 - Wednesday
We took Harry to a bowling
alley this evening and, as if just the new noises and sounds of the lanes
and pins wouldn't have been enough, we went to an area of the complex that
had disco lights flashing overhead and loud music playing. We had three other
children in our group between 11-13 (Harry's only first cousin, who is pictured
to the right, and two of his second cousins) who liked the environment. But,
perhaps Harry was a little overwhelmed by it all. He was constantly jerking
his head from side to side trying to take in all that was going on around
him, especially the lights that would flash above him and the funny bubbling
patterns that were projected onto the walls.
By the time we left - I'm not sure of what time it was, but maybe 8:30pm -
Harry was completely worn out. We had barely gotten out of the parking lot,
literally a few hundred feet, before Harry was asleep in his car seat and
out for the night.
Well, unfortunately, he was not out for the whole night. For the last month,
I guess since we moved, Harry has regularly been waking up at least once during
the night. At first it seemed like an occasional anomaly, but after all this
time it's clearly an unfortunate habit, especially for his mother who's the
one who needs to feed him. Although we moved more than a month ago now, we
still really don't have a real schedule yet, and maybe that has been Harry's
undoing. Hopefully, next week a pattern will emerge for Harry and he can return
to sleeping through the night.
