I noticed something about
Harry that I oddly hadn't seen before. We were in the living room of the cottage
and my brother was just starting to make noises on electronic musical keyboard
he'd brought along. Not too surprisingly, Harry started to smile as he often
does when he hears new sounds. His eyes look around for some explanation and
a little half smile comes to his face. What I hadn't noticed before was that
his little smirk is a crooked smile, raising only one side of his lips like
his dad. Curiously, with Harry it's the left side of his face that starts
the smile, while with me it's the right.
I've never really been too caught up in wanting Harry to look like me. He's
his own person, a handsome person, and a combination of his mother and me
and that's just great. I will concede to enjoying that his eyes continue to
have a hint of blue, as is the case with all of my parents and grandparents,
but the rest of his look, whether from me or his mother, makes me happy. However,
the crooked smile comes down to Harry from his grandfather and is quite distinctly
my side of the family and maybe that's proof enough that he's my boy.
