June 24, 2000 - Saturday
I'm thinking that
these are the easy days with Harry. He's old enough to be aware of a great
deal of his environment and has a brain that is kicking into a high gear learning
mode, yet he's not mobile enough to get into a great deal of trouble. Watching
him is no longer a constant adult struggle of finding new and interesting
objects and games to occupy his young mind. He's gotten a lot better at distracting
himself and that allows me to take a few more liberties doing other things
and not constantly attending to him.
Moreover, hanging out with Harry these days can be wonderfully relaxing, often
just lying with him on the floor or the bed enjoying his curiosity. There's
still plenty of need to interact with him and keep him moving in the right
direction, but he's doing more of the work himself now. I'm told the relaxing
part goes away again when he starts to move around. No doubt.
