We visited some
friends today that also have a six week old baby. Naturally, the mother's
pregnancy overlapped a little with Harry's mothers and one of the few downsides
to the move to our new house will
be the somewhat decreased likelihood of a mini play and support group amongst
the six of us. We'll still be in the area, working here, but we won't be living
right up the road.
It was quite a novelty to see such a small baby again. Harry's almost doubled
in weight since his birth just six months ago and was a surprising contrast
to the tiny person in the room with him and to the baby he once was. I often
go back and look at the pictures and see how small he was, but to see that
old familiar size in a little infant's one-piece put the Harry's growth in
a clear perspective.
In a bit of an irony, I've found myself saying recently that I notice that
Harry keeps getting lighter. It's not true, of course, but it feels like it.
Harry's mother agrees that her arms, biceps, triceps, and forearms are all
a lot stronger now than they used to be. I remember it being tiring to hold
Harry for too long when he was younger and my muscle strength had yet to be
honed. Now I regularly carry Harry out on errands without a carrier, just
holding him in my arms, and never seem to notice the weight. Harry sitting
there on my arm - looking all around, being cute, and charming the ladies
at the bank - probably is its own distraction, but my arms are definitely
more attuned to that position.
