Today Harry
has a new home. He actually attended the closing for our new house and
was pretty much the ideal baby. As if to understand the magnitude of the event,
Harry was mostly quiet, yet with a healthy dose of excitement, waving arms,
and general happiness at the prospect of a yard to play in and maybe a dog.
He didn't whine or complaining when we had to park him in his car seat so
his mother and I could sign the multitude of papers, nor that attention was
not properly focused on his immediate world for that hour. At the end of the
closing someone asked if he were always so quiet. The answer, of course, is
"no, not always." But, he's mostly good-natured and plenty good
to deserve a nice home in which to grow.
We spent the night in the new house with nothing for furniture except Harry's
crib and our waterbed, which without a traditional mattress was possible to
pack into and onto the car. If his hooting is any measure, Harry likes the
new place. With the wood floors and no acoustical dampening from rugs and
sofas, Harry could have just been fascinated by the bell-like ringing of his
own voice echoing through the hallways. Either way, he's happy and we're happy.
