March 8, 2000 - Wednesday
Harry was laughing this
morning and it was very funny. He's chuckled many times, and did
laugh in his sleep once, but this was pure childish laughter. I was so
taken by it, I don't remember what I was doing to aroused it - making some
noise or face I'm sure - so I'm not sure how to get it back. But I'll be working
on it.
Harry also had his best morning for making sounds in at least a couple weeks.
I thought the same thing before after
he seemed to have lost his technique in mid-February, but he's continued to
have trouble. Instead of using the air moving across his vocal cords, he's
tried to force the noises from the back of his throat and that usually makes
him cough. Because of it, I haven't played our
vocal game very much lately and when I have I've tried to encourage softer,
more relaxed sounds. I also stop as soon as he starts to have difficulties.
Hopefully, not not always, that's before he gets the hiccups.
It was actually his mother who helped him rediscover his old form this morning.
She, too, has been working the quieter, gentler voice angle and it paid off
today. For the longest stretch since February, Harry was singing his lovely
songs.
