Harry is 27 1/2 pounds and an inch less than 3 feet tall, according to the
scales and rulers at his doctor's office. Unfortunately, those present details
of his growth came at the price of a very unhappy boy in his 3-year visit.
Actually, it came at the price of two unhappy boys, but I'm pretty sure Jeremy
was just playing along. Harry, on the other hand, was quite awkwardly frightened
by the trip to the doctor's and that is discouraging. Oh, I suppose kids will
do things like that, Harry did it last week at the Rainforest
Cafe, and in isolation it's no big deal. He's at an age when he's starting
to realize that sometimes bad things can happen. Whether that means monsters,
or getting hit with a shovel, or other kids
grabbing and not being nice, it all adds up to a world that isn't as dedicated
to Harry as he might have thought just a few months ago.
But, while it all seems normal, on the one hand, the second guessing is starting
for me. Have we done the right things so far? Have we been too hard on Harry
and made him less comfortable with himself than he should be? People at daycare
always stay he seems wonderfully adjusted, but maybe that's because he's just
shy and quiet and inside he's troubled. And, what about this not
participating with the class? That is still, apparently going some days.
One day at a time, I guess.
