Harry wasn't quite sure about the zoo at first. The first thing he saw was
a very large, and somewhat agitated rhino and it made him a little nervous.
But, somewhere between our excitement about the animals and an explanation
or two about the fences keeping them on their side, Harry caught on. Who knows
what will strike a fancy or anxiety? Harry kept saying he liked "the
giraffes," but I'm pretty sure it was the giraffe exhibit with a pond
of large goldfish and swimming ducks just inside the railing. Harry liked
the elephants, and the zebras and was absorbed by, although not as overtly
joyful as I might have thought, about the primates.
After naps and lunch, we spent the entire time in the kid's corner of the
zoo. Harry liked petting a deer and then a kangaroo (lower left) that weren't
moving, but the petting zoo with sheep and goats walking all around made him
a little nervous (lower right). Harry loved the seal tank where playful mammals
swam right by the window (middle left and also...)
and a kid's playground mole tunnel of tubes for climbing. Jeremy (right) was
mostly a bystander today, but that's really fine. A day of new distractions
isn't bad for an eight-month old either.
