February 17, 2004 - Tuesday
There's a noise I now hear most every evening that tells me bath time with mommy is over and it's almost time for stories. Last fall that signal used to be Jeremy coming to the top of the stairs and calling for me to come say goodnight. Bu now it comes earlier when the boys are brushing their teeth. Jeremy started it, I think, but Harry, always one to gleefully make noise, has picked up on it. But, that's OK because this is almost, actually it is, singing. It started with mommy trying to help Jeremy brush his teeth. "Open wide," she would say, "open wider," still not enough, "say aaah." So, Jeremy started saying "aaaaah," delightfully in the purest little boy toddler full voice. For Jeremy, it is a note, and since it has to keep going, he seems to think, for as long as mommy is brushing his teeth, it has become a moving note. It has become vocalizing, scat singing if you will, and Jeremy's tone is completely innocent and angelic and it is a very happy sound. Harry's "aaah, ah, ah, aaaah" is a stronger, more mature tone, quicker moving from note to note and often prone to exaggeration and silliness, but in this case, at least from a distance, it's still extremely cherubic.

It's time to go read stories.
