July 19, 2004 - Monday
Harry was clingy again this morning and I reacted
a little stronger and shorter than I probably should have, telling he was
being silly and gruffly leaving. I tried to get him to talk to Rachel, who
was standing there with some kind of paint set, but then just walking out
with Jeremy. So, much for my great lessons about making friends.
I asked one of Harry's teachers this afternoon how well he does in the mornings
and they matter-of-factly said, "oh, he's fine. As soon as you're gone
he mixes with the other kids." Heck, maybe he's just playing me or testing
out other behaviors that he's seen at school. Of course, I'm sure there's
a little parent-management in that comment, and things aren't quite that simple
for Harry, but maybe all my stuff about making friends is superfluous. On
the other hand, it can't hurt, can it?
