June 27, 2004 - Sunday
There was, potentially, a major change this morning in our weekend routine.
When the boys mother and I turned to see the clock this morning for the first
time it was 7:20 am, a solid hour after we'd usually have been woken by one
of the boys coming into our room. It's been that way for about two years since
Harry started sleeping in a big bed. Of course, this wouldn't be the first
time the boys might have slept in for one reason or another, but that doesn't
seem to be what happened today. Instead, I am almost sure I heard Harry tell
Jeremy that they had to be quiet. What is clear is that both boys were playing
quietly in Jeremy's room and, as best as I can tell, had been for some period
of time. Harry, after initially hesitating (likely because he wasn't sure
it was OK), did say he had been playing in there for a while. Waking habits
would suggest that it had been about an hour.
Are we at a point when this will start happening every weekend day? That would
be good, wouldn't it? It certainly would be if they didn't start getting into
trouble. Not that seeing their smiling faces coming in the door is so unwelcome,
but rest would be a good thing..
There was a moment in bed immediately after looking at the clock that I had
major flashbacks to my own childhood, getting up with my brother before our
parents were up and playing or going downstairs to watch TV. I can even vividly
imagine my older brother telling me we needed to be quiet if we wanted to
keep playing. Somehow that all makes me feel closer to Harry and Jeremy.
