Harry's always been a relatively animated speaker, for his age anyway, and
recently that's started to include getting his arms and face into it. There
are couple different times when this is most obvious and the first is when
he doesn't want to do something. His arms will rise, his palms will go up,
and he'll thrust his hands downward and outward as he voice aches with the
(faux) pain of a young child who thinks that not eating his last piece of
broccoli, or not going to bed yet, or watching one more minute of a video
is the most important thing in the world. He's more endearing when he's trying
to get something or convince his mother and me that we or he should do something.
He'll use his most polite, angelic voice, he'll smile, and piously hold out
his open hands and ask to watch a video, or play a game, or go to get ice
cream at the local stand across town. Even funnier is when he'll be offering
choices or, more often, an order in which we should do two or more things.
He'll use the same voice, the same smile, and the same arm gestures, but he'll
move his open arms in parallel from one side of his body to the other, marking
of the phrases of his plan. Surely, he knows he's emoting, but he's very confident
in these matters of expression and that's probably the best part of it.
