A free day! Grandma Shirley called Friday night asking if "we'd mind" if she and Grandpa Hal took the boys up to cousin Ben's birthday party. It would be an over night as it was with Harry two years ago, but it would mean that both boys would be gone all day from about 8 in the morning until about 8 at night. Would we mind?!

It's funny. There's no parent who wouldn't understand the freedom and real joy of being rid of the kids of a day, yet it has nothing to do with how we feel about them. We love the boys completely and would never want for them to be away too long. But, kids can be all consuming and every now and then it's nice just to be adults and go hiking, canoeing, and just relax on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
