September 14, 2004 - Tuesday
For the second morning in a row on the way out the door Jeremy has asked,
"where we going today."
"To school," I'll answer, thinking that's the answer he was hoping
for.
"Me no want to go to 'tool," he's said.
"Where do you want to go, Jeremy?"
"Me want to go to Mia's house."
"Mary's not home today Jeremy, besides you like going to school."
From there the conversation breaks down as we jostle into the car, but I do
find this quite curious. Yesterday I was more worried about it, thinking that
Jeremy's first full day at preschool last Friday, napping amid a roomful of
kids had not been as exciting as he had reported. Indeed, his teacher said
that he probably only slept for 20 minutes, often looking around at the new
and strange environment. However, this morning this little exchange struck
he a little differently. Jeremy went from happily joking with Harry to whiny
in order to ask his question and it occurred to me that he was just doing
what he'd seen his older brother do so many times: complaining about going
to school.
