I bought that used canoe yesterday and
I took the boys out on the section of river closest to our house (about a
half mile). It could not have gone much better. We saw a flock of ducks, two
swans, a flock of geese, a heron perched on a log about 50 yards away, a heron
flying low to the water, the heron flying low to the water again for about
200 yards, and a turtle swimming to the two-foot deep water directly beneath
out canoe. We were in a little tree-bound inlet and I'd seen small small bubbles
and went to investigate. There is was: a solid 16-inch long shell and the
better part of two feet with the head sticking out. Follwing the bubbles allowed
Harry and Jeremy to see it, too. But, the best part was listening to Harry
tell his mother about it at dinner time, complete with the bubbles. That's
the reason for the canoe!
