Like I had to do with Harry some two years
ago after he entered preschool, I had to take Jeremy to a get a lead level
blood test to complete his preschool paperwork. Actually, Jeremy had it even
worse: he needed a chicken pox vaccine, too, and we did them both this afternoon,
but at two different places. I told Harry that it was the same test as when
he had his finger pricked and he seemed to remember it quite well. That was
good and bad because he kept trying to remind Jeremy where we were going.
It was good because I've often complimented Harry on how brave he was that
day and he tried to tell Jeremy how to do that a little bit. Of course, he
also kept saying how they were going to prick his finger and that it was going
to hurt a little. Fortunately, Jeremy didn't ever get visibly concerned. Indeed,
Jeremy has a history of being
even braver than Harry when it comes to shots and today was no different.
The first stop was Dr. Francis' office for the vaccine. It was a fairly quick
in and out and Jeremy never batted an eyelash. Even tougher, he stared right
at the needle as it entered his left shoulder, drawing praise from the nurse
in the room who had given him the shot and from Dr. Francis in the hall who
had heard nothing from inside the room. The second stop at a lab/clinic was
even more impressive. This time they did not prick a finger, but rather took
blood right from Jeremy's inner elbow. He watched the needle go in and the
blood come out with only fascination.
