November 27, 2005 - Sunday
Yesterday's wedding couple had another event today. It was an afternoon dinner at one of their favorite restaurants for some of their closest friends and we'd plan to go. The trouble was that, unlike the wedding which had been closer to Aunt Lisa and Uncle Ben's house, this was north of us by an hour. Another day with Aunt Lisa was much less practical. We thought about a babysitter, but it would be at least a four hour afternoon and probably much longer. (It turned out to be about six hours). The bottom line is that we ended up bringing the boys. We'd been to the restaurant and knew it was small and cozy and that our group would be isolated from any other patrons, so we decided to try it. In fact, we kind of joked with Greg and Jessica that we'd see them tomorrow "if we could find a babysitter for the boys." But they've babysat for the boys before, played "pillow world" with them, and hosted them at their apartment in Washington. "Bring them along," they said, and we think they meant it. We did bring crayons and paper and the portable DVD player, and it worked out just fine. They were very well behaved, talked to some people just enough, and watched their cartoons quietly when it was time for that. Somehow I found that all wonderfully satisfying, if not inspiring for other potential outings.
