Field Day at kindergarten. Parents were invited to come play Pinny tag, Poison Ball, Capture the Flag, and Messy Backyard with their children. I went to play with Harry and had a great time running around, particularly in Poison Ball and Capture the Flag. I kept trying to get Harry to come with me to try and get the flag, but he likes to play it safe. So, I played defense, too. It was probably just as well because otherwise I might have been to aggressive.
When I got to the school it wasn't quite clear to me and some of the other parents whether we should be waiting inside or going out into the playground area. Aaron's mom and I decided to go out, only to be quickly escorted back into the building with the reminder that parents aren't aloud on the playground (even though that's where the Field day activities would be). The teacher added that the kids out there at the time playing were the 2nd graders and not the kindergarters we were looking for anyway.
Now, why wouldn't the teacher have started with that more important piece of information? Because the school has this overtly aggressive manner about protocol and safety. The trouble is, as much as the school professes to encourage parent volunteers, they just don't make them feel welcome and that was another point of discussion between some of the other parents and me.
