We've been recording and watching the Texas Ranch House series on PBS this week with the boys and they seem to be really getting into it. I suppose that may have a lot to do with the fact that they just don't watch too much TV and, thus, these evenings are a novelty for them. But they, certainly Harry and probably Jeremy, too, seem to understand that the series is PBS's attempt to show what life was like many years ago and to show how modern people would do in such a different setting. Of course, we've read both Harry and Jeremy several of the Little House books (known to them as the "Laura and Mary" books), so we've talked about life in the olden days when Pa had to hunt for food and how they had to get water from the well and all. Texas Ranch House is not much different from that, at least in a general way. Plus it has cowboys and houses and cattle. More impressively, though, the boys seem genuinely interested in the storyline, both seeing how the people get along and the work to find and round up the cattle.
