It was another
winning day for Harry and father, though it didn't seem like I got nearly
as much work done as yesterday. Harry even gave me the benefit of an hour
and 45 minute nap in the middle of the afternoon, but, regrettably from a
work standpoint, the first 45 minutes of that were on my chest. Work be damned,
napping like that with my young son is a worthy trade-off, especially if I
need the rest too. And, somehow, a sleeping baby represents everything that's
charming, innocence, and full of potential about an infant, perhaps because
one doesn't need to constantly react.
I napped for about 20 minutes and then read a little before finally extricating
myself, fully expecting Harry to awaken. But, he did not and I went off to
the computer and did make some progress, though mostly catching up on email
correspondence. Harry also came over to the lab and watched me test projectors.
He wasn't taken by any in particular, but it was more action work for me than
heavy thinking, so I was able to banter and keep Harry relatively distracted
for a while at least.
I have to put in the record that I've started to call Harry "Boo-Boo,"
though it's almost always in the context of simple random filler to distract
him, as in "Hey Boo-Boo." It's been at least a couple weeks since it started
and I really don't remember exactly how it did, but it certainly wasn't a
conscious thing. It must be a combination of trying to comfort him when he
cries - as in "don't boo-hoo" or "boo-hoo boy" -, trying to teach him consonants
- he's got a couple of the vowels down pretty well, but isn't making too much
progress yet with the consonants -, and the old "Hey Boo-Boo" from Yogi Bear.
Mostly it's just making noise in the on going quest for that interactive environment.
