May 26, 2000 - Friday
Harry came very
close to sitting on his own today. He was able to sit for a few seconds and
even stop himself from falling forward, but he has a little way to go still
before the weight of his head is counteracted by the muscles in his back.
I first noticed this feat on this couch at Harry's grandparents house, though,
since I was alone with Harry, I wasn't able to capture the sitting on camera.
I did, however, get these wonderful images of Harry lounging on their couch.
We were out at their house to check in on their dogs while they were away.
Harry wasn't too sure what to think of the dogs and, again because I was alone,
I wasn't able to take a picture of Harry and the dogs.
Today was the end of our week together and it seemed like Harry was catching
on to my antics of taking him various places to distract him. But, since I
really did have places to go today, there wasn't much choice and he got along
just fine beyond some mild protests at having to get back in the car. In fact,
the whole week overall was much closer to the very good things I envisioned
before it began than the bad things.
It was a remarkable week of development for Harry, too. Even through the course
of just this one week I notice a dramatic difference in Harry's awareness
at the world around him. He was noticeably reaching for things, grabbing at
things, and getting frustrated when he couldn't reach them. But, also, his
glances at the things around him happened more quickly and with much greater
cognition, it seemed, as to what it all meant.
