"I will see the backhoe."
"I will go to the playground."
"Jeremy will cry."
Harry's been testing his understand of the future tense a lot lately. I guess
he was doing it before I left for my business trip,
but I've noticed it a lot more since I've been back. On the one hand, I think
it's awfully cute to listen to. You can almost see the wheels turning in his
head as new phrases emerge for public testing. Still, it's just amazing to
think about how a little brain can learn the rules of grammar without any
hint that there are such rules to be learned. Vocabulary seems a lot easy
to understand: a child sees an object or an action and gives it a name. But,
the subtleties of language, they 'will be a big pile' for a little boy, I'd
think.
