August 25, 2004 - Wednesday
Jeremy pooped in the potty today at Mary's house. It's been a struggle for
the last few weeks now with only faint glimmers of success
and hopes that Jeremy might be turning the corner.
Worse, Jeremy's becoming constipated and usually having a bowel movement only
every two or three days. He's been very regular his whole life up until now.
Of course, we're all very excited for him when he's successful and he's very
proud of himself, but it hasn't yet seemed to get him past the mental hesitation.
This afternoon I took him to Target and bought three new "Thomas"
trains, as well as some more tracks for building larger circuits. He got to
have one train and the tracks right away, but the other train cars, including
a bright yellow tank truck, are now sitting in his bathroom right next to
the toilet in the packages waiting for him to go again. That just what worked
so well with Harry and Harry showed a couple of
weeks ago that he certainly understood what was going on. Although oddly
today, Harry was much less gracious about not getting a train. He's a kid
and selfishness is to be expected, but I was a little surprised after he had
done so well two weeks ago. After we got in the car I leaned over to whisper
in his ear, explaining that Jeremy was just learning. It didn't seem to help.
I suppose I should have got him a little something on the side, but I don't
know. I still think he understands the situation quite well.
