Jeremy got a fever last night and mommy stayed home with him today. Save the being sick part,. Jeremy seemed to enjoy that one-on-one time with mommy quite a bit. In fact, literally every time she so much as stepped out of the room, Jeremy would say "mommy leaving?" She would answer his little pathetic, sick child voice with "oh no, Jeremy, I'm not leaving. I'm just going to get the laundry" or "no, Jeremy, I'm just going to the bathroom." It was charming at first. Then it started to be a guilt trip for the working mother. Then, somewhere later in the day, it became something of a little joke with Jeremy would ask the same question in the same pathetic voice, but with his trademark twinkle in the eye.

So here's the question: at what point did Jeremy start understanding that this was funny? Clearly by the end of the day he was "working it" and that may have been because of the various inspired reactions he'd been getting all day. But, I'm suspicious. I think it may have been because we found him out and that perhaps he was working it for a lot more of the day than we realized.
