It seems like just about every time we're in the car now (with the exception of that wonderful cello music-filled morning drive to school, just the two of us), Jeremy has been asking, "how long until we get home?" I suppose it's Jeremy's version of "are we there yet?" It always seems to happen if we go to a store after school, but it sometimes even happens if we're going straight home when the answer is something like "5 minutes, Jeremy." But it doesn't matter what the answer is - from the stores it might be 18 minutes or 22 minutes, or 3 minutes from somewhere closer - because Jeremy will invariably follow my response with "that's way, way, way too long." (The number of times he says "way" does seem to be proportionate to the actual length of time I say, but I think even that has more to do with Jeremy's mood.) I used to say, "there nothing I can do about it Jeremy," but now I ask, "what do you want me to do?" He might say, "go a different way," to which I'll always answer, "then it will take even longer, this is the fastest way." That tends to corner him with logic, but I'd certainly bet that this really doesn't have much to do with logic, just Jeremy being Jeremy and a kid being a kid.
