Harry's had only half days at school this week and my plan has been to let him watch a couple of movies that are probably over Jeremy's head (since Jeremy has full days). Monday's movie was School of Rock, a rather irreverent movie that has a lot of unbecoming disrespect of authority and other people in it, but also something of the joy of playing music. It's that latter part that I wanted Harry to see. He still likes the drums, but practicing still is hard for him and he often gets frustrated. I just don't want practicing to be a big negative and if School of Rock can make practicing a little more appealing, or at least a little less objectionable, that's more important than the other stuff. I figured I'd just have to count on Harry to weed through that unbecoming himself. I watched a lot of the movie with him and he was the one saying that Jake Black's character was being nasty and being mean to others. And, of course, he thought the good parts were cool.
Yesterday, after we got home from our parent-teacher conference, I let him watch Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. I've joked with Harry about it being a very scary movie, mostly because I didn't want to have Jeremy see it quite yet, but after his initial hesitation about it being too scary he seemed to remember the funny parts more.
Finally today we watched The Sandlot, a movie I'd recorded to the DVR. It was good, but Harry's easy. He likes everything.
