October 20, 2005 - Thursday
After Harry got off the bus this afternoon and before we got in the car to go get Jeremy, he made a comment about being "worried about Hadley." It had something to do with Hadley's little sister being mean to her, but it wasn't really clear. I tried to ask him about it during the car ride and I got a little more out of him that suggested Hadley's little sister was hitting Hadley and taking her things and so forth. It's certainly possible that sisters would hit and fight with each other, but "worried" for her safety seemed like a bit of a reach. Still, Harry seemed pretty sincere about it, so we talked about it during the seven minute ride to Jeremy's school, albeit without much resolution or real illumination of the problem.
We went out to a special dinner after Harry's drum lesson so we could go to the open rehearsal for this weekend's symphony concert (it's the only time the boys can see the symphony until they turn 6 according to orchestra concert rules). I sat in the booth next to Harry and as we were waiting for our food he piped uip and tried to tell mommy about being "worried about Hadley." It was a topic that I was still quite curious about so I jumped in and started asking questions again. It caught Harry off guard since he'd expected to start from the beginning with mommy and he quickly fell out of his storyline trying to answer.
"Harry, are you really worried about
Hadley or just pretend worried?" I asked.
For the first time a less than sincere expression appeared on his face and he answered, "just pretend worried."
I don't know where this is coming from, but since Harry is so young I've got to wonder whether he's emulating something he's seen. Specifically, I wonder whether he's copying Anakin Skywalker's protection of Senator Amedala.
