August 27, 2002 - Tuesday
"Excuse me," Harry said sitting at the table during dinner. I was
talking with his mother and didn't respond right away. "Excuse me,"
he said again, somewhat more animatedly.
"For what?" I finally asked turning to him, immediately and instinctively
knowing both what his answer was going to be - I didn't really know, but it
would be that - and that I missed my line. It should have been "excuse
you for what?"
"I burped." There is was, brilliantly performed like he had seen
it as many times as I.
His mother and I smiled and laughed. She missed her line, too, instead saying
"he got that from your family."
So I finished the scene, "OK, Harry, you're excused."
It is a wonderful life.
