We've been making a concerted effort to teach Harry to be polite, to say please
and thank you, and not be nasty and I think I can say that for the most part
we and he have done pretty well. He's a two-year old and has plenty of moments
when he is less than gracious, but his instincts seem good and he tries a
lot and seems to understand the value of being polite, at least at some level.
Tonight at bedtime, in the typical routine, I came into Harry's room as his
mother was tucking him in. Some nights his mother lingers longer than others.
Some nights Harry asks her to sing a song, but it's usully my charge. After
all, I've been doing it virtually all his life and tonight he confirmed that
he wanted me to sing him songs and he made his feelings clear.
"Mommy, go away," he said bluntly.
"Harry, that's not very nice," I said in a disappointed manner.
"Please, go away," was his response in a far more appropriate(?)
and pleasant voice.
I guess it's a work in progress.
