September 12, 2002 - Thursday
Jeremy has been home all week while his baby-sitter has been on vacation.
His mother has stayed home a couple days, but Monday and today he was with
me all day.
Jeremy has taken a fascination in drinking from a glass and often comes back
several times for a sip from a glass of water I might be drinking. Of course,
by the time he's done his shirt is all wet and there is cluster of wet spots
on the chair, but it's only water. This morning during breakfast I got him
his own little glass of water and for some reason let him hold it himself
when there was about an inch of water left in it. But, that was no problem
for Jeremy and it was much earlier than when Harry
first drank from a glass.
Jeremy's been seen standing on his own for very brief periods, but today he
did so near the coffee table for a solid five seconds and maybe closer to
ten.
His mother has been telling me about Jeremy's love of playing ball and his
understanding of throwing it back and forth (that's also something Harry didn't
do for many more months). Jeremy gets such a kick out of throwing it, and
then he giggles even more when you roll it back.
When it was time for a nap this afternoon, I sang Jeremy to sleep. Of course,
that's a major part of my past with Harry, but Jeremy always seemed to get
more distracted by it. But, today, he was tired and the old methods worked
like a charm: a little head rubbing, a little hand holding, and a little of
"What a Wonderful World" and "El Condor Pasa."
