A year ago when they were here for Christmas, Grandpa John and Grandma Judy offered to take Harry and Jeremy to the movies to see the newly released Polar Express. After much indecision and online research, their mother and I decided that the movie would probably be a little too scary for both of them and that they probably should not go. That may seem a little paranoid , but Harry still leaves the room and sort of looks in from the hall during the scarier moments in movies like Bambi. A train full of protagonists careening out of control across a big frozen lake seemed like it might be too much. This year, after several months worth of Star Wars action and adventure, we thought maybe the boys would be OK with it.
I had been to the new Jordan's IMAX theater for a trade association meeting in September and knew Polar Express in 3D would be there for Christmas. So, that's where we went this year with Grandpa and Grandma. I sat next to Harry and mommy sat next to Jeremy and I think it's pretty clear that we made the right choice last year. That's not to say that today was a bad experience, but it did teeter on the brink of terror for both Harry and Jeremy during the more tense moments. I think Harry enjoyed the movie, and by this evening he was saying that he liked it and wasn't scared at all. But during that most intense parts, I could see Harry squirming. And at that point when the train was out of control I heard him say, "bad movie." Mommy says Jeremy was uncomfortable, too, but they both made it through OK.
