The boys' new Animusic II, or "drum movie" as they call it, was a DVD Christmas gift from Grandpa John. Basically, it's has eight different musical pieces, all of which are played by animated musical instruments. The instruments aren't necessarily traditional instruments, but rather things like drums or xylophones that effectively have arms and play themselves. One track had a composite of several guitars are morphed together into one with spider-like arms that moved along the fret boards and others that puck the strings. In another, a cannon type tube shoots balls that hit something like a marimba drums in perfect rhythm.
Most of the music is original and had been written, I believe, for this DVD. However, the fourth track is a medley of sorts. As soon as it started Harry said, "hey, it's Pictures at an (sic) Expedition." (Although Harry's speech has been almost impeccable since he was two, there are still a few words he just doesn't have right, like "fravorite," "amblience," and the use of "what" instead of "that." But they are so cute and we really don't see much reason to try to fix them.) About halfway through as the medley of progressed, Harry said, "that's the Great Gates." Grandpa was impressed, but Mussorgsky's extra-musical masterpiece is one of the boys' favorite CDs for the car and they, and we, have heard it a LOT.
