January 22, 2006 - Sunday
We went to a symphony concert this afternoon, at a new Sunday afternoon time, and heard two pieces by Brahms, the Serenade for Orchestra #1 and his second Piano Concerto. I enjoyed hearing the wonderful orchestration in the Serenade, but it was the third movement of the Piano Concerto that literally made me smile. It's about a 14 minute movement in which the principle cellist is nearly as prominent as the piano soloist. This cellist was a handsome young woman with shoulder length brown hair, but it was our sweet Jeremy's little cello that I was thinking about.

The afternoon concert time made it practicle for us to share a babysitter with Rip's parent, with whom we sit at these concerts. We thought Kelly, one of Harry's old teachers, would be great and well able to handle three little boys while we went to the concert and even to dinner. And she was and everything seemed fine when we got back, with the exception of Harry having apparently bumped his head during "wrestling." After everybody left, Harry started saying that the day had not be fun, specifically noting that incident, although I think he was just playing up the sob story and really had fun for most of the 5 fives hours. I'd actually thought about talking to Kelly about the wrestling, and the recommendation that she should nip it in the bud at the first hint of it, but I never did. It's an awkward issue that, on the one hand, is just boys being boys. I've said that many times, including to Rip and Harry's teachers at school. But Rip is so much bigger than Harry and Jeremy and that means he's always going to dominate Harry and Jeremy. I think the relentlessness of it makes Harry uncomfortable. He plays along, but I think the snow pants dynamic is still there, if not increasing.
