October 22, 2006 - Sunday
I don't know why I'm so surprised by this, but these "compositions" of Jeremy's really mean something and are not just drawings of notes on a page. This evening before bedtime Jeremy sat and dutifully played through each page of his music. Even more amazingly, I was able, after I figured out the code, to follow along. And he played through every one, too, front and back. A couple of points along the way I said, "that's the end." But he said, "no" and flipped a the page over to the other side. There even seemed to be a specific order he wanted to play them in, athough I'd bet it was probably an improvised order.

The best part of this recital was that at one point I told Jeremy it was getting very late and that we should probably stop if he wanted to have time for stories. "I don't care if I don't have time for stories," he said rather matter-of-factly out of the corner of his mouth and without taking his eyes off his pages or breaking the flow (whatever "flow" a 4-year-old cello player can have) of his playing. You just don't mess with this little boy when he's creating art.
