This should have been no surprise at all: an old college friend of mine, Becky, came over for dinner this evening and the boys were in rare form. The novelty of a guest had them both telling jokes (as 6-year-old and 4-year-old jokes go anyway) and laughing and having a great time. I had to remind them both to eat their dinners a few times, but for the most part I just went with the flow. The best part was that the flow was good. They're polite, position, and happy boys who kept to good topics and didn't digress into any variety of adolescent subject matter that wouldn't have been appropriate. And that was very refreshing.
