I think I made a mistake today when Harry wanted to play his drums at bedtime. I let him, but then I turned it into a practice session and pushed him too hard on something that I thought was a rhythm that he should have been able to figure out. He had his lesson this afternoon and I really hadn't thought he needed to practice again, but he wanted to play and that just fine by me. He ought to have fun. He played through a couple of old pieces that really should have been very easy, but got tripped up on a rhythm in the second one. I asked him to think about it, but maybe it was too late at night. I asked him to work it out, but maybe it was too late. Then I tried to teach him how to figure it out instead of just singing it for him and that turned into too much work. He eventually got it, but if it was at the risk of him wanting to just play the drums for fun, then I made a big mistake. I told him I made a mistake a couple minutes later when he got in bed, but talking is only talking. I'll have to make sure to just let him bang a bit over the next few days.
