There's an implication in what I wrote last week that Harry is just not as creatively motivated as Jeremy. Jeremy is certainly more serious about his art than Harry, as well as the more emotionally aware of the two, and the difference is pretty clear. But Harry still likes to paint and draw and he's made a lot of progress. He did this "dot painting" today, having done a couple others yesterday. I don't know it for sure, but I'm guessing he learned this painting method of dipping the brush in the paint and kind of flinging it at the paper in art class at school. He didn't learn it at home and he talked about it in a way that implies learned knowledge rather than something discovered.
Harry's actually been quite interested in art class this year and has created some very nice pictures. He did these crayon "sunflowers" in art class (actually, I'm not sure whether it was this or another version of the same: he's made a few of them since) a couple of weeks ago, apparently in the style of Vincent Van Gogh. When I saw it I thought it was very nice, if not surprisingly creative for Harry, and asked him about it, especially the half flower on the right. He, quite matter-of-factly, told me that the class had been told to draw these sunflowers using a picture in the room as a model. I guess that's the method Ms. Dionne uses to teach the children. And, heck, I firmly believe that creativity, at least to a certain level, can be taught and learned. Harry's doing a nice job.
These "pumpkins" are also from school and show wonderful progress in Harry's drawing ability from last year.

With the boys' interest in Into the Woods of last Saturday, we took them to see the actual staged production this afternoon. It really didn't go as well as the rehearsal, probably because we had to sit in the very back and the boys couldn't really see very well. They were both still interest in the story, and it's nice to expose them to musical theather, but there wasn't quite the same charm as at the dress rehearsal.
