August 3, 2002 - Saturday
Harry's been looking forward to our beach vacation ever since we mentioned
it to him a couple of weeks ago. I'm not really sure that he remembers it
from last year, but he's looked at
the pictures and is certainly ready to go. Interestingly, last night at
bedtime, he started talking about how he was going to play in the sand, but
that he wasn't going to play in the big waves, apparently tentative about
the potential danger. When we actually got here today, that lasted about five
minutes.
After our morning in the car, we went down to the beach for only an hour or
so before lunch and Harry hardly even stopped at the sand. He was in the water
and, indeed, in the big waves with even
more excitement than last year. And, he stayed in the big waves long past
the point that his little body began to shiver almost uncontrollably from
the cold of the water. I finally convinced him to take off his wet shirt and
run back and forth into and away from the waves, thinking that might warm
him up a little. He did not care to sit wrapped in a towel very long.
Jeremy, on the other hand, was not as excited about the water as Harry, although
Harry was a little nervous two years
ago at a similar age. But, Jeremy seemed happy in the warmth of the sand
and did venture into the water a little with
his mother.
