February 26, 2006 - Sunday
Last night we all went to a skating party at a nearby rink. We'd bought the boys skates up at L.L. Bean while we were visiting Maine last weekend just for the event. I love skating and even though the boys probably won't get many more chances to use them this year, it still seemed like a good idea, especially because Bean sells kids skates that can expand three sizes. With the exception of my bringing them out to a very small pond a little up our stream for a few minutes just so they could feel what being on skates is all about, last night was their first time on skates. And they did OK. There were a couple of chairs and props around the rink that they could push and Harry particular took to skating very well. I was really quite impressed, although that may be just because I had no idea what to expect. He didn't do so well without something to hold onto and push, but when he had that he was skating all over the place. It was a little harder for Jeremy, but that's to be expected since he's younger and still developing coordination. He didn't do to badly either, but either or his mother or I basically had to hold Jeremy's hands and skate backward the whole time (and that's rather tough on the back).
